Biography

Alison Krauss, born on July 23, 1971, in Decatur, Illinois, is an acclaimed bluegrass singer and fiddle player. Raised in Champaign, Illinois, she began studying classical violin at the age of five before transitioning to bluegrass. By eight, she was competing in local talent contests, and at twelve, she won the Illinois State Fiddle Championship. Krauss released her debut album, Too Late To Cry, in 1987, followed by her first collaboration with her band Union Station, titled Two Highways, in 1989. She alternated between solo projects and records with Union Station, gaining mainstream recognition with her 1990 album I've Got That Old Feeling, which won a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Recording. Known for her angelic vocals and innovative approach, Krauss has become a prominent figure in both bluegrass and country music, blending traditional elements with contemporary influences throughout her career.
