Biography
Ann Savage, born Bernice Maxine Lyon on February 19, 1921, in Columbia, South Carolina, was an American actress known for her roles in film noir during the 1940s. She gained cult stardom for her portrayal of the femme fatale Vera in the classic film Detour (1945), which remains her most recognized work. Savage began her career in Hollywood as an extra and gradually advanced to featured roles in various films, including Klondike Kate and The Unwritten Code. During World War II, she became a popular pinup, making appearances to support the troops. After a brief hiatus from acting, she returned to the screen in the late 1980s and appeared in the acclaimed film My Winnipeg (2007). In recognition of her contributions to cinema, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored her as an "icon and legend" in 2005. Savage passed away on December 25, 2008, at the age of 87.
