Barbara Bel Geddes (October 31, 1922 - August 8, 2005) was an American actress, artist, and children's author, recognized for her significant contributions to film and television. She gained widespread acclaim for her portrayal of matriarch Eleanor "Miss Ellie" Ewing in the popular television drama series Dallas. Bel Geddes also made her mark on Broadway, originating the role of Maggie in the original production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Her film career included notable performances in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (1958) and I Remember Mama (1948). Throughout her career, she received several awards and nominations, highlighting her talent and versatility as an actress.
