Biography
Celeste Holm was an American actress born into a family with artistic and business backgrounds. She studied acting at the University of Chicago and made her stage debut in 1936, with her Broadway debut occurring at the age of 19 in "The Time of Your Life." Holm gained acclaim for her performances in notable plays such as "The Women," "Oklahoma!," and "Bloomer Girl," where she performed the song "I Cain't Say No." In 1946, she signed with 20th Century Fox, appearing in her first film, "Three Little Girls in Blue." Holm won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Gentleman's Agreement" (1947) and received two additional Oscar nominations. Although she enjoyed success in film, she remained dedicated to the stage. Throughout her career, she also appeared in television series and movies. Celeste Holm passed away at the age of 95 on July 15, 2012.
