David Tomlinson

Biography

David Tomlinson is best known for his role as George Banks in Walt Disney's Mary Poppins (1964). He began his film career in the pre-war British film Quiet Wedding (1941) and subsequently appeared in Leslie Howard's Pimpernel Smith (1941). Over his career, Tomlinson featured in more than 50 films and enjoyed significant success on stage, including a long-running performance in "The Little Hut," where Robert Morley and Roger Moore served as his co-stars and understudy, respectively. During the 1930s, he understudied Alec Guinness before achieving fame with Mary Poppins, followed by several successful collaborations with Walt Disney. Tomlinson had close friendships with notable figures such as Errol Flynn and Peter Sellers. He retired in the early 1980s, leaving behind a legacy as one of the century's prominent character actors.
