Dennis Franz is an American retired actor, recognized primarily for his portrayal of NYPD Detective Andy Sipowicz in the ABC television series NYPD Blue, which aired from 1993 to 2005. His performance in this role garnered him significant acclaim, including a Golden Globe Award, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards. In addition to his acting career, Franz served in the U.S. Army, where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War.
