Gilberto Gil, born on 29 June 1942 in Brazil, is a prominent musician, singer, and songwriter known for his influential role in Brazilian music, particularly in the genres of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) and bossa nova. He spent his early years in Ituaçu, Bahia, before moving to Salvador, where he began his musical education with accordion lessons and formed several musical groups. Gil's diverse musical influences include traditional Bahia music, as well as iconic Brazilian artists such as João Gilberto. He graduated in Business Administration from the Federal University of Bahia in 1964 and subsequently worked in various jobs while pursuing his music career. Throughout his life, he has been married multiple times and has several children, including notable figures in the music scene. His contributions to Brazilian culture have earned him recognition both nationally and internationally.
