Gladys Cooper was a distinguished English actress known for her extensive work in theatre and film. Born in London, she began her career on stage in 1905 and quickly gained recognition for her performances in various productions, including The Belle of Mayfair and The Importance of Being Earnest. Cooper transitioned to film in 1913, later achieving critical acclaim in Hollywood. She was nominated for three Academy Awards for her roles in Now, Voyager, The Song of Bernadette, and My Fair Lady. Throughout her career, she portrayed a range of characters, often embodying aristocratic figures. In addition to her film work, Cooper returned to the stage in the 1950s and 1960s, earning accolades for her performances. In 1967, she was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Her final stage success came at the age of 82 in The Chalk Garden, showcasing her enduring talent.
