Rúben dos Santos Gato Alves Dias, born on 14 May 1997, is a Portuguese professional footballer who serves as a centre-back for Premier League club Manchester City and the Portugal national team. Recognized for his defensive skills, leadership qualities, and aerial prowess, Dias is regarded as one of the top defenders globally. He developed through Benfica's youth academy, making his senior debut in 2017 and earning the Primeira Liga's Young Player of the Year award. Dias won the league title with Benfica in the 2018–19 season and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in 2019–20. Transferring to Manchester City in September 2020 for a reported €68 million, he won the league title and EFL Cup in his first season and received multiple individual accolades, including FWA Footballer of the Year. Dias has also represented Portugal at various youth levels and made his senior debut in 2018, contributing to the national team's successes in international tournaments.
