Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev was a Russian composer, pianist, and conductor, recognized as one of the major composers of the 20th century. His oeuvre encompasses a diverse range of musical genres, and he is celebrated for several masterpieces that remain widely performed today. Notable works include the March from The Love for Three Oranges, the suite Lieutenant Kijé, the ballet Romeo and Juliet—featuring the famous "Dance of the Knights"—and the children's symphonic tale Peter and the Wolf.
