The Cramps
Biography
The Cramps were an American punk rock band formed in 1976 and active until 2009, when they disbanded following the death of lead singer Lux Interior. The band had a rotating lineup throughout its history, with the husband and wife duo of Interior and lead guitarist Poison Ivy as the only constant members. The original lineup included guitarist Bryan Gregory and drummer Pam Ballam in April 1976. The Cramps were integral to the early CBGB punk rock scene in New York City and are recognized for their influence on various musical styles. They are considered one of the first garage punk bands and are credited as key innovators of the psychobilly genre. Their distinctive sound and aesthetic left a lasting impact on punk and alternative music.
