Biography
Wendy Richard, MBE (born Wendy Emerton, 20 July 1943 – 26 February 2009) was an English actress renowned for her roles as Miss Shirley Brahms in the sitcom "Are You Being Served?" and Pauline Fowler in the long-running soap opera "EastEnders." Richard portrayed Pauline Fowler for nearly 22 years, making her one of the original cast members from the show's debut in 1985 until her character's death in December 2006. She received her education at St George's Primary School in Mayfair, the Royal Masonic School for Girls in Hertfordshire, and the Italia Conti Academy stage school in London. Wendy Richard was awarded an MBE for her contributions to drama. She passed away on 26 February 2009 at the Harley Street clinic, where she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
