Biography

Woody Strode was an African-American decathlete, football star, and film actor from the United States. He is best known for his performances in several classic films, including the title role in "Sergeant Rutledge" (1960), as well as appearances in "The Ten Commandments" (1956), "Spartacus" (1960), "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" (1962), and "Once Upon a Time in the West" (1968). Strode received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Spartacus." In addition to his athletic and acting careers, he served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Strode was married and stood at a height of 193 cm (6' 4"). His contributions to sports and film left a lasting legacy.
