Biography

Mario Puzo was an American author and screenwriter known for his works focusing on the Italian-American and Sicilian Mafia. His most famous novel, The Godfather, published in 1969, was later adapted into a highly acclaimed film trilogy directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Puzo won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for both The Godfather in 1972 and its sequel, The Godfather Part II, in 1974. In addition to his Mafia-themed narratives, he wrote the original screenplay for the 1978 film Superman and its 1980 sequel. Puzo's final novel, The Family, was published posthumously in 2001. His contributions to literature and film have left a lasting impact on popular culture.
