Biography

Bill Withers was an American singer-songwriter and musician born in Slab Fork, West Virginia. Active from 1970 to 1985, he is best known for his timeless hits such as "Lean on Me," "Ain't No Sunshine," "Use Me," "Just the Two of Us," "Lovely Day," and "Grandma's Hands." Withers was recognized for his contributions to music with inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 and the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2007. His song "Lean On Me" was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame that same year. Notably, he performed at the historic "Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974 alongside icons like James Brown and B.B. King. Withers has two children, including daughter Kori Withers, who is a singer. He has been married to Marcia Johnson since 1976.
