Biography
Douglas Fairbanks Jr. was an American actor and decorated naval officer, born in New York City, New York. He was the son of celebrated actor Douglas Fairbanks Snr. and Anna Beth Sully. Fairbanks Jr. began his film career at age 14 with Paramount Pictures, transitioning from supporting roles in silent films to leading roles in early sound films. His notable works include "Outward Bound" (1930), "The Dawn Patrol" (1930), "Little Caesar" (1931), "Prisoner of Zenda" (1937), and "Gunga Din" (1939). During World War II, he served as a reserve officer in the United States Navy, working with Lord Louis Mountbatten’s Commando staff. Beyond acting, he was recognized for his humanitarian efforts, receiving the German Federal Cross of Merit in 1982. Fairbanks Jr. was married three times and had three daughters. He published his autobiography, "The Salad Days," in 1988. He passed away on May 7, 2000.
