Anne Shirley, born Dawn Evelyeen Paris on April 17, 1918, was an American film actress known for her roles in early 20th-century cinema. She began her career as a child actress under the name Dawn O'Day, later adopting the name Anne Shirley after her portrayal of the titular character in the 1934 film adaptation of "Anne of Green Gables." Throughout her career, she garnered recognition for her performances in supporting roles, most notably in "Stella Dallas" (1937), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Shirley retired from acting in 1944 at the age of 26 and lived in Los Angeles until her death on July 4, 1993. Her contributions to film continue to be remembered as part of Hollywood's classic era.
