Biography

Hooverphonic is a Belgian band formed in October 1995, originally categorized as a trip hop group. Over time, their sound evolved to encompass a diverse range of genres, including alternative, electronica, electropop, and rock. Initially named Hoover, they changed their name to Hooverphonic to avoid legal issues with other groups and a vacuum cleaner company. The band's core lineup features bassist Alex Callier and guitarist Raymond Geerts, along with various lead singers, including Liesje Sadonius (1996–1997), Geike Arnaert (1997–2008, 2020–present), Noémie Wolfs (2010–2015), and Luka Cruysberghs (2018–2020). Hooverphonic was set to represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with "Release Me," but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They later participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "The Wrong Place."
