Biography
Kim Hunter, born Janet Cole on November 12, 1922, was an American actress known for her work in film, theatre, and television. She gained significant acclaim for her role as Stella Kowalski in the 1951 film A Streetcar Named Desire, for which she won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. In addition to her film career, Hunter received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for her performance on the soap opera The Edge of Night. She is also recognized for her portrayal of Zira, a chimpanzee, in the original Planet of the Apes film series. Throughout her career, Hunter showcased her versatility across various genres and mediums. She passed away on September 11, 2002.
